World Trade Center Artifact Expected at City Hall Thursday

Arnold's first responders and city employees will escort the 9/11 item to Arnold, from St. Louis, Thursday afternoon.

The City of Arnold will accept the World Trade Center artifact for the city’s 9/11 memorial at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Ward 1 Councilman Christine "Cricky" Lang said she, Arnold Parks and Recreation Director Susie Boone and members of the Arnold Police Department, Rock Community Fire Protection District and Rock Ambulance District will travel to the UPS station 520 S. Jefferson Ave. in St. Louis, MO, to receive the artifact at 5 p.m., according to a City of Arnold news release.

The Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, which guards World Trade Center artifacts and approves 9/11 memorial requests, sent the steel beam via UPS about a week ago, Lang said during a recent city council meeting.

The news release said an American flag will cover the 9/11 artifact in respect for the 2,817 people who died nearly 10 years ago when terrorists flew two 767 passenger jet planes in to the two New York City office buildings.

Arnold’s first responders will escort the artifact to Arnold. The route will begin at the UPS station, travel to Interstate 44 eastbound and then onto Interstate 55 southbound, the news release said.
