Fox, Seckman Wrestlers Commended by School Board

The Fox School District board gave Fox medals to all the wrestlers that went to the state meet.

Seckman and Fox state wrestlers were recognized with Fox School District medals at the school board meeting Tuesday night.

Fox coach Norm Mitchell and Seckman's Cody Greene introduced each of their wrestlers. Fox had four, though only three could be there, and Seckman had their 10 state qualifying wrestlers, as well as Blake Pepper, which Greene included because he took fifth last year but was injured this year and couldn’t wrestle.

“It’s a pretty fun deal,” Mitchell said. “It’s the first time these guys get to get up in front of the board.”

“We’re very young," he said after the event. “Mostly had nine or ten sophomores in our lineup, with 14 weight classes, the future is pretty decent.”

Greene said they’ve progressed a little each year since he’s been coach, the last six years. Seckman got its first state trophy last year with a fourth, and this year the team took third. He likes what next year looks like, too.

“We have one freshman and two sophomores, returning placers in the top (state) four, so that’s definitely returning some major points.”

Sophomore Brock Wingbermuehle was state champion at 120 pounds. Freshman Weston Basler took second at 106, and freshman Luke Weiland was fourth at 113.
