Meet Emily J.A. Malabey — Fox C-6 School Board Candidate

A questionnaire was sent to each of the seven candidates running for three, three-year terms on the Fox C-6 School District Board of Education. The following, in their own words, are their responses.

Emily J.A. Malabey, married with two children who attend Fox C-6 schools, is student at Webster University where she is continuing her education in pre-law/legal studies and English.

Malabey works as a professional non-attorney advocate, mediation specialist and is a licensed Missouri Notary Public. She is also a member of COPAA (Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates) and said she has worked closely with Missouri legislators in her advocacy efforts, including Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Glendale).

Malabey is the founder and President of ICAA, a local non-profit organization centered on advocacy, education and supports for autism and different abilities. She is also on the Advisory Board for the internationally recognized Kits4Kids Foundation.

How will the Fox C-6 School District deal with expected major cuts in state revenue?

“As a candidate, obviously I cannot say for certain what will be looked at, proposed or scrutinized in our district’s budget once I become a new Board Member. I will advocate for the interests of all students first. I do plan to ensure that if there is waste in the budget, we cut it. I will do all I can to ensure that programs our students depend on are protected and in fact, enriched. As at the founder and President of a non-profit organization, I understand prioritization of projects and oversight. I will work to ensure continuous improvement of the district with the resources already available.”

What programs need to be added or deleted?

“Since I am not yet on the Board and I am not privy to all of the information current Board Members have, I cannot say fairly if any programs need to be deleted. If elected, and based on the information that I do have, I expect to find that we can make improvements in some areas, without deleting anything. Making improvements in what is currently available is a fiscally responsible way to ensure progress.”

Do you think a tax increase is needed to offset the dwindling resources of the school district?

“Absolutely not. Additional resources due to any tax increase is not the answer, and cannot be, without an examination of current levels of expenditures and positive tangibles.”
