Shop Tax-Free in Arnold This Weekend for Back to School Supplies

Back to school purchases in Jefferson and St. Louis counties will be sales tax free this weekend, but some cities opt out of the program.

As shoppers gear up for a new school year starting in August, the Missouri Department of Revenue has scheduled its annual sales tax holiday on school supply purchases.

Most back-to-school purchases—like clothing, computers and school supplies—will be exempt from sales taxes starting midnight on Friday until Sunday, Aug. 5.

But not everywhere. Some cities in Jefferson County have opted not to participate in the sales tax holiday. Arnold, however, will be participating.

Crystal City, Festus, Pevely, Byrnes Mill and De Soto all have opted out of the sales tax holiday program. Similarly, many cities in St. Louis County have opted out.

For local shoppers, it means there will be no sales taxes levied at Arnold businesses, but purchases at Fenton's Gravois Bluffs will be subject to a half-cent Fenton city sales tax, although the St. Louis County portion of the sales tax will be waived.
