Ladies and gentlemen, start your hamsters. Petco is hosting a hamster ball derby Saturday afternoon, pitting rodent against rodent in a race for the finish line. Pet gerbils, mice and rats may also participate, but nothing exotic. There will be prizes for the winning creatures.

Arrive early to register, starting at 1:30 p.m., and get those little legs warmed up with a few practice rounds. Participants must bring their own hamster balls, which happen to be on sale at the store from now until race time. Visit Petco's website for a coupon, and for tips on how to prepare for race day.
