Local Swimmer Breaks 34-Year-Old Ozark Swimming Record

Fourteen year old Nick Alexander broke three-time Olympian Tom Jager's record.

The Ozark Swimming 200 Meter Backstroke record was 34 years at the top until local guy Nick Alexander, a member of FAST (Flyers Aquatic Swim Team), broke it recently.

Tom Jager, a three-time Olympian held the record, 2:12.43, and Alexander beat it a 2:08.79 time.Β  Alexander also broke his own record in the 200 Meter Individual Medley with a time ofΒ 2:14.53, according to Matt Wever, a FAST board member.

Wever said Alexander should really be proud.

"In a sport where records are more often than not broken by one or two-tenths of a second, breaking a record by almost 4 seconds is huge," he said.

Wever also said USA Swimming Olympic trial cuts have not yet been released, but felt Alexander's backstroke time puts the 14 year-old in striking distance.
