Notebook: Seckman Girls Soccer Continues Resurgence

Seckman is 6-4-0 after going 6-17-0 last season. Plus, updates on Fox girls soccer and baseball.

The Seckman girls soccer team (6-4)  has continued an impressive resurgence this season under second-year coach Jeff Perry, who saw his Jaguars go 6-17-0 last season.

Seckman already has four shutouts this season, three of which have come from freshman Hannah Spraul. Backup junior goalkeeper Vicki Vitt has also been solid in goal, including one solo and one shared shutout.

Offensively, senior forward Jessie Maledy has a team-high eight goals and 21 points, while junior forward Jessica Smugala has added seven goals and freshman midfielder CJ Fitter has four goals and a team-high nine assists. The Jaguars have 34 goals, which are the most of any team in the Suburban South Conference, and they’ve allowed just 14.

After hosting Parkway Central on Wednesday, the Jaguars play at Mehlville (4-5) on Monday at 7 p.m., followed by a match at Webster Groves (8-5) on Tuesday at 5p.m.

The Fox girls soccer team is 3-5 following its current four-game slide. The Warriors won their own tournament in late March, defeating Affton, Festus and Kennedy, before coach Stacy Johnston’s club ran into an offensive slump.

Sophomore forward Kayla Farr has seven of the team’s 13 goals this season, and has a team-high 17 points. Junior forward Emilie McKeown is second with six points. After its game at Rockwood Summit (8-1) on Wednesday, Fox hosts Windsor (4-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then will play at Kirkwood (6-2) on Monday at 6 p.m.

Heading into its rivalry game on Wednesday against Seckman (3-6), the Fox baseball team carried a 4-3 record. The Warriors won at Parkway West last Thursday, 6-4. Fox will host Northwest (3-7) on Friday at 4:15, then play at Northwest on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The star for coach Neil Richardson this season has been senior center fielder Tyler Miller, who is batting .478 with a team-high 11 hits and 11 RBI. This includes eight extra-base hits and three home runs.
