Public Pools Set to Open Saturday for the Summer

The Arnold Recreation Center's outdoor pool was the first public pool to open for the start of summer.

As people prepare for Memorial Day weekend with barbecues, picnics and other Memorial Day activities, those who run the public pools in the South County area are gearing up for the traditional start of summer by prepping their facilities and getting ready for an influx of swimmers. They likely also will be keeping their fingers crossed for summer temperatures on the weekend as swimmers will flock to the water. The forecast for temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s should put a smile on their faces.

The 's outdoor swimming pool at 1695 Missouri State Road was the first pool in the area, which includes South St. Louis County, to open. The pool opened, unofficially, the weekend of May 19.

Daily admission to Arnold's pool is $6 per person for non-members and $5 for people ages 62 years and older. Children 4 years old and younger can play in the water for free. Arnold pool season passes cost $80 per person and $140 for a family pass.

Workers at the  in Crestwood prepared for the opening of its 10th anniversary season on May 26 by power washing the pool deck. The pool opens Saturday. The aquatic center is offering a special event Friday when a free screening of Jaws will be shown at the compoetition pool area.

This year non-residents no longer will have to be sponsored by a Crestwood resident to purchase a membership ID card.

A 10th anniversary celebration is tied to anhother holiday—July 4—that will include a Lazy River Duck Race. A 2013 Aquatic Center Family Pass will be awarded to the winner. Adopt your duck at the Community Center or Aquatic Center beginning June 8 for $5. Additional prizes also will be awarded.

Fees for the Whitecliff pool vary with several membership plans available for residents or non-residents of Crestwood.

will kick off its 62nd season Saturday for picnickers and swimmers at its facility at Romaine Creek Road and Highway 141 in Fenton. The 50-acre park contains picnic pavilions, volleyball and horseshoe courts and a miniature golf course.

The park opens at 8:30 a.m. with the pool opening at 10 a.m. Park admission is $7.

A newer pool facility in Fenton is at , the city's recreation facility at 990 Horan Dr. It also is set for a Saturday opening of its outdoor pool. Pool hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fees are $8 for adults and $7 for kids under 16  who are  non-residents of Fenton, or $5 for adults and $4 for kids for Fenton residents.

The pool at the in South County, which is part of the St. Louis County Parks Department, also is opening Saturday - at noon. Pool fees are $3 for kids under 13 and $4 for adults.

Shrewsbury is gearing up for the summer swim season as well with its municipal pool opening the at 11 a.m. Saturday. There are various pool pass packages available for Shrewsbury residents. Non-residents are permitted in the pool if they are a guest of a resident or they may purchase a pool pass if they are sponsored by a Shrewsbury resident. ID cards and passes will be processed at the aquatic center7407 Sutherland Ave.,  though 2 p.m. Saturday.
