Fight Childrens' Hunger During the Summer

Operation Food Search wants to ensure that children get fed during summer vacation.

Summer vacation. For most children those are two of the sweetest words in their vocabulary. Nothing could be better than having week upon week stretch before you with no worries whatsoever. But unfortunately that’s not the case for all our community’s children.

For thousands of children in the St. Louis region, summer vacation means not having enough to eat. The thousands of children that serves are kids who, September through June, wake up every weekday morning knowing that today at least they will be able to have a nourishing breakfast and a hot lunch, courtesy of their school lunch or breakfast program.

But during the summer it’s a much different story. These children open their cupboards and there may very well not be any cereal for breakfast, fruit for a snack or meat for a sandwich. Without these sources of high quality nutrients, these children’s growth and minds may be stunted.

To ensure food is available for these children, the Hunger Never Takes a Vacation promotion runs in all , , and Straub’s stores from May 21 through July 29.

It’s fast and easy to participate in Hunger Never Takes a Vacation. Coupons for $1, $5 and $10 donations are placed at all checkout lanes. Customers present the coupon to be scanned by the cashier.

Funds raised from the promotion will be used by Operation Food Search and the St. Louis Area Food Bank to help feed the area needy.
