Imperial Student Named to Kohl's Scholarship Competition

12-year-old has the opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship for his volunteer work.

Taylor Turner, 12, of Imperial is among 53 Missouri students, and more than 2,200 students nationwide, to recieve $50 gift certificates from .

The retailer rewarded Turner, and his fellow winners, for volunteer work which made a postive impact on the community, a Kohl's news release said.

“Kohl’s is thrilled to recognize more than 2,200 young volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy to bettering the communities in which we live,” said Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

“Every effort, large or small, makes a difference. Through the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, we strive to not only recognize these efforts but also encourage outstanding youth to improve their communities through volunteerism," she said.

The winnners qualify for the chance to recieve a $1,000 regional scholarship for post-secondary education to be awarded in July.

From the 200 regional winners, 10 students will be selected to recieve a $1,000 scholarship. The retailer will also donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

For 12 years, Kohl’s has rewarded young volunteers. This year, Kohl’s will grant more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes.  

The Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program is part of Kohl’s Cares, the retailer's philanthropic program dedicated to improving the lives of children, the news release said.
