Ring a Virtual Bell: Patch Joins the Salvation Army’s Online Red Kettle Campaign

Your Arnold Patch editor is in a friendly competition with fellow Patch editors in St. Louis to help the Salvation Army ring in donations for the people in Arnold, Jefferson County and throughout the metro St. Louis area.

The holiday season is arguably the most giving time of year. However, it is the busiest. Many of us give back by tossing our leftover grocery store cash and coins into our neighborhood Salvation Army red kettles.

Now until Jan. 31, there is a way to do even more—with your own personal virtual red kettle.

Eight Patch sites, including this one, are proud to feature their very own Online Red Kettles.

There is no registration fee to participate and everyone who donates to an ORK will receive a printable email for tax purposes.

The money donated to the red kettle charity is used to aid needy families, seniors and the homeless, according to the Salvation Army’s website, as reported by Patch Writer Angela Atkinson in article published earlier month.

“Donations provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need,” the website states. “Financial assistance also helps with basic necessities, along with seasonal aid. Families of prisoners often are included.”

The website also said that many families will receive help over a period of months after the holiday season, especially those who struggle with difficult family, emotional or employment problems.

Last year, the Salvation Army served more than 30 million people in need, provided 60 million meals for the hungry and sheltered 10 million people.
