Seckman High School student Zackary Pelker was recently announced as one of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s 2013 Scholar-Athletes, which is bestowed on one senior from each school in the Post-Dispatch coverage area. Pelker is captain of the soccer and volleyball teams, according to his profile on Post-Dispatch. Pelker told Post-Dispatch his favorite subject is history. "It can't be changed and you can learn from other people's mistakes and successes," he said. Learn more about Pelker's college plans on Post-Dispatch. This year's 150 scholar-athletes were honored May 15 prior to the Cardinals-Mets game at Busch Stadium, according to Post-Dispatch.

Fox High School student Andrew Moorehead was recently announced as one of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s 2013 Scholar-Athletes, which is bestowed on one senior from each school in the Post-Dispatch coverage area. He participates in baseball, basketball and soccer, and was named to the Fox Basketball Tournament All-Tournament team, according to his profile on Post-Dispatch. Moorehead told the Post-Dispatch that his father is his hero, and it's influenced his future goals. Ray Norris, an Arnold resident and owner of a Brentwood MMA studio, helped out with a commercial that will air on Good Morning America.
Ray Norris, of Arnold, has been practicing martial arts since he was 4. He’s now 41, and his work is about to hit national TV. Fat Chimp Studios, a St. Louis video production company, needed a fight scene for a video and asked Norris to choreograph. Norris owns Wise Warrior MMA (mixed martial arts) at 8514 Manchester Road. In return, Fat Chimp shot a commercial for Norris. Danny Hughey and Garrett Halbach have signed to play soccer at Southwestern Illinois College.
Two Seckman High School athletes have signed to play sports in Illinois next year. Danny Hughey and Garrett Halbach signed letters of intent to play for the Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm men's soccer team. Halbach is a 2012 graduate of Seckman, according to a news release from the college. Congrats to both athletes! See which area students have also signed on for college play:

Several district students recently placed in the Fifth Annual Missouri National Archery in the Schools competition and will move on to national competition in May.
Fox students in Arnold and Fenton took home several honors following the Fifth Annual Missouri National Archery in the Schools (MoNASP) state tournament March 22 and 23 at the University of Central Missouri. The following students and teams will advance to the national tournament May 10-11 in Louisville, KY, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Bench players for Seckman helped squash a late rally from Northwest, but they were able to do it off of the field, the St. Louis-Post Dispatch reports.
Brad Hagedorn, coach of the Seckman Jaguars baseball team, is crediting his bench players in a big win over Northwest on Tuesday. As Northwest fought to erase a deficit in the sixth inning, Seckman's bench players assisted centerfielder Thomas Estopare in a key moment, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. After catching a line drive, Estopare fired a throw to third base to pick off a Northwest player that left the bag too early, the newspaper reports.
