A growing divide between Ward 1 Councilwoman Doris Borgelt and Mayor Ron Counts was evident during the Arnold City Council meeting last Thursday. Borgelt will run against the mayor in April 2013.
The divide between two groups on the Arnold City Council grew wider last Thursday after each side butted heads three times. The groups were divided into two camps: one with Ward 1 Councilwoman Doris Borgelt and the other with Mayor Ron Counts. Both have announced their intent to run for mayor in April 2013. How it started Thursday It began Thursday when Borgelt took the floor and accused the council of trying to wrongly impeach one of their own. “We as a council held a closed session that was supposed to be regarding personnel. In reality, that session was closed in an attempt to oust a fellow city council member. When he was not receptive to resigning, an attempt to force him out by drawing up articles of impeachment was discussed,” …

Anheuser-Busch's Arnold-based business will need a larger sewer pipe after its $70 million expansion.
The City of Arnold will pay $200,000 to increase the size of the pipe connecting the Metal Container Corporation to the city sewer system. The business is owned by beverage-maker Anheuser-Busch InBev and will undergo a $70 million expansion, within the next two years, that will add about 130,000 square feet to the company’s existing building along Arnold Tenbrook Road. The larger building would require a larger sewer pipe, former Arnold City Administrator Matt Unrein wrote to Anheuser Busch Companies in a letter dated November 9, 2011. While a few councilmen voiced their surprise, at the July 12 work session at City Hall, they supported Anheuser-Busch’s expansion in Arnold. Ward 2 Councilman Bill Moritz said he wanted all city costs, in …

City Council voted unanimously to OK both projects.
Arnold City Council on Thursday unanimously approved measures that will advance two business developments. In a 6-0 vote, the council OK’d zoning of a 25,000-square-foot building for retail use next to PetSmart in Arnold Commons. The planning commission had previously voted 10-0 to go forward with the project. A single company will operate in the space. Community Development Director Mary Holden and THF Realty representative Mike Neary said further details are confidential. When asked, Holden said the business will be a soft goods store. The council also took action on a project of a much larger scale. Members voted 6-0 to issue the bonds that will help finance the expansion of Metal Container Corporation. Mayor Ron Counts announced …

The process was used four years ago, and was put into writing in January. Now the procedure has helped to bring an $80 million investment into Arnold.
Arnold Mayor Ron Counts held a press conference at Arnold City Hall on Monday to announce what he said is the largest corporate investment in the city’s history. Thanks to a resolution that City Council authored in January to entice Anheuser-Busch InBev to invest in Arnold, the company will make an $80 million, 100,000-square-foot expansion to an already existing Arnold facility, Metal Container Corporation. By comparison, Arnold Commons was a $70 million project. The news was first announced Monday morning. A fast-tracking procedure was one element that convinced the company to invest here. The city worked with AB InBev and the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation to structure the deal. “This fast-tracking bill allows the …
