Arnold Rec Center Officials Warn Guests to Lock Their Lockers

There have been four recent thefts from unlocked lockers at the city's recreation center. One of the items stolen was a laptop computer.

Arnold Recreation Center officials are warning guests to lock their lockers while using the facility after four thefts were reported recently from unlocked lockers.  "We have cameras throughout the center, but we don't have them in the locker rooms," said Susie Boone, Arnold parks and recreation director. Boone said an extra staff member has been placed downstairs by the locker rooms and that announcements are made every 15 minutes reminding guests not to place valuables in their lockers. "Locks are available at the front desk for free to resident members and they are $2 for non-resident members," Boone said. "You can even bring your own lock if you want." Here are the thefts as reported by the Arnold Police Department: Arnold Police Det. …

Astraway Drive Open to Traffic

But contractors will begin to install the roundabout by widening the intersection with Missouri State Road.

Contractors opened Astraway Drive to traffic from Hwy. 141 on Monday, July 16, as planned. But drivers will continue to see road work for about another few months, as construction crews demolish the intersection of Astraway with Missouri State Road. The crews need to widen the intersection to install the planned roundabout. Drivers should expect to see workers on the road for the first few weeks of fall and into the school year, Arnold Public Works Director Bryson Baker said at the Arnold Recreation Center in a May meeting about the project. Flaggers will organize traffic during the fall, Baker said. Children and teenagers walking to the recreation center, the Jefferson County Library-Arnold Branch or Jefferson College should make eye …

Astraway Roundabout Takes Shape

Contractors have completed one stage of road work at Astraway Drive and Missouri State Highway.

People can begin to see the size of the turing circle planned for the intersection of Astraway and Missouri State Highway. The City of Arnold decided to build a turning circle, or roundabout, to improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle wrecks at the entrace to the Arnold Recreation Center, the Jefferson County Library's Arnold Branch and Jefferson College. Contractors closed the section on June 18 to begin 95 days of work on three road projects, Public Works Director Bryson Baker said in a meeting on June 18 at the Arnold Recreation Center. A new roundabout will be installed for the Astra Way Drive intersection with Missouri State Road; the pavement along Astra Way Drive will be improved between Hwy. 141 and Missouri State Road; and at the …

Destruction Progress: Astra Way and Hwy. 141

Workers are in the second week of a three-week project that has closed the intersection in front of the Jefferson County Library, Arnold Recreation Center and Jefferson College.

On June 18, the City of Arnold closed a section of Astra Way bordered by Hwy. 141 and by Missouri State Road for three weeks. Construction crews will need to raze the asphalt and concrete on the road sections prior to installing a roundabout for the Astra Way Drive intersection with Missouri State Road; repaving Astra Way Drive between Hwy. 141 and Missouri State Road; and improving traffic signals, removing the median and installing new turn lanes at the intersection of Astra Way and Hwy. 141. The work is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle wrecks at the entrance way to Jefferson County Library, Arnold Recreation Center and Jefferson College. The images above show the crews have razed the road at the intersections and are …

Navigating a Roundabout

A 4-minute and an 8-minute video posted by the Missouri Department of Transportation explains how to use and drive through roundabouts.

When Arnold’s new roundabout on Astra Way opens in the fall, a few people will be unfamiliar with procedure of driving through it. The roundabout will be in front of the entrance to the Jefferson County Library-Arnold Branch, the Arnold Recreation Center and Jefferson College’s Arnold Campus. The City of Arnold and the Missouri Department of Transportation provided a video explaining how to use a roundabout. The video also says that a raised truck apron borders the center of most roundabouts. The apron helps long and large vehicles navigate the roundabout by raising the rear wheels and allowing the vehicles to make the turns through the roundabout.

Astra Way Closing for 3 Weeks Next Monday

Crews will begin to install the new roundabout and two other road projects for Astra Way on Monday, June 18.

The City of Arnold will close a section of Astra Way Drive on June 18. The closure will affect drivers going to the Jefferson County Library’s Arnold Branch, the Arnold Recreation Center and Jefferson College’s Arnold Campus.  The road will be closed for about three weeks, City Public Works Director Bryson Baker said during a question-and-answer session at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road, on Thursday, June 7. Drivers will need to turn onto Old Lemay Ferry Road, from Hwy. 141, then turn right on to Missouri State Road towards the intersection with Astra Way Drive, Baker said, to arrive at one of the three buildings. “We would like drivers to move through an intersection with a traffic light to moderate the traffic …

Do the engineers or planners or whoever it is that has started putting these round-abouts in the area actually use them or try to pretend that they save money or time or reduce traffic accidents or injuries? After spending time waiting and using the round-about on Metropolitan in Barnhart I have learned to save time and stress by avoiding the area at all costs. Drivers are so determined to get …   more ›
