Historical Society Seeks Larger Building for Collection

The museum has no room to display its entire collection in the trailer located at Ferd. B. Lang Park.

It’s time for the Arnold Historical Society’s museum to have a space of its own in a more centrally located part of the city, said Bernie Wilde, president of the society. Located in Ferd B. Lang Park on Old Lemay Ferry Road, south of Church Road, the organization’s museum has a variety of rare artifacts. The museum shares space with the Arnold Chamber of Commerce but has outgrown its current quarters, Wilde said. “We’re in a 40-year-old house trailer, and we only have 825 square feet of space,” Wilde said. “We need 3,000 square feet. We need a larger and a more well-traveled space. We need a building where we can display what we have.” Some of the organization’s donated items come from current and former Arnold residents. Arnold's Citizen of the Year: Kathy Flanigan of the Arnold Food Panty's Thrift Store

The non-profit director works about 60 hours a week to feed about 400 people weekly.

Kathy Flanigan, of the Arnold Food Pantry’s Thrift Store, received the Don Earl Citizen of the Year Award during the Chamber of Commerce’s Lunch on Tuesday. About 63 business owners attended the lunch at Ponderosa, 3601 Jeffco Blvd., to meet other business owners and listen to Mayor Ron Counts present the award. The award is given to a nominee who actively works to support and improve the Arnold community, Counts said. “I’ve learned the best way to get a project completed is to give it to a busy person,” Counts said prior to giving the award to Flanigan. During her speech, Flanigan asked Arnold residents to care for all people in the community. “I know three people within a 1-mile radius of here who are living without electricity.” She …
