To help our neighbors and voters, ArnoldPatch contacted the candidates running for the April 5 elections for the Arnold City Council and for the Fox C-6 School Board.  This page will list all the candidates. Click on a name to learn the candidates' responses to ArnoldPatch's election questions.  ArnoldPatch sent certified letters to the 11 Arnold City Council candidates and invited them to e-mail their responses, to three questions. Meet the Fox C-6 School Board Candidates

Five of seven candidates responded to reporter Steve Birmingham's questions. Their answers, in their own words, are provided in the links below.

Patch Reporter Steve Birmingham requested Fox C-6 School board candidates reply to three questions: Click on a name to learn the candidates responses.  Names are listed alphabetically. Fox C-6 school board candidates Emily J.A. Malabey and Patrick W. Chisholm did not respond to our reporter's repeated requests for a profile. Addition: Emily J.A. Malabey said she never received a phone call or email message from our reporter. She emailed her responses to the editor and contacted the reporter on March 30. ArnoldPatch has provided her information for the benefit of our readers.

Meet Emily J.A. Malabey — Fox C-6 School Board Candidate

A questionnaire was sent to each of the seven candidates running for three, three-year terms on the Fox C-6 School District Board of Education. The following, in their own words, are their responses.

Emily J.A. Malabey, married with two children who attend Fox C-6 schools, is student at Webster University where she is continuing her education in pre-law/legal studies and English. Malabey works as a professional non-attorney advocate, mediation specialist and is a licensed Missouri Notary Public. She is also a member of COPAA (Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates) and said she has worked closely with Missouri legislators in her advocacy efforts, including Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Glendale). Malabey is the founder and President of ICAA, a local non-profit organization centered on advocacy, education and supports for autism and different abilities. She is also on the Advisory Board for the internationally recognized Kits4Kids …

Meet John Laughlin — Fox C-6 School Board Candidate

A questionnaire was sent to each of the seven candidates running for three, three-year terms on the Fox C-6 School District Board of Education. The following, in their own words, are their responses.

John Laughlin has lived with his wife, Mary, in the Arnold/Imperial area for 16 years and has two children who attend middle school and high school in the district. Laughlin said his educational and work backgrounds have strong emphasis in Economics and Business management and he is currently a partner, Chief Executive officer and President of Conference Technologies Inc. ® CTI, is a St. Louis headquartered technology company that provides audio visual engineering, design and installation. Laughlin said he and his family are actively involved in the Fox district volunteering time, money, and equipment to the schools his children have attended. Meet Vernon Sullivan — Fox C-6 School Board Candidate

Vernon Sullivan is married with three grown sons and six grandchildren. His sons graduated from the Fox C-6 School District. He is also a U. S. Army veteran and served from 1964 through 1966. Meet Linda S. Nash — Fox C-6 School Board Candidate

A questionnaire was sent to each of the seven candidates running for three, three-year terms on the Fox C-6 School District Board of Education. The following, in their own words, are their responses.

Incumbent board member Linda S. Nash and her husband, Dennis L. Nash, have three sons and three grandchildren and live in Arnold. A life-long resident of the district, Nash and her husband are both graduates of Fox high schools. Nash has an associate’s degree from Jefferson College and has attended Southeast Missouri State University. Nash is President and Chief Executive officer of Matthews Book Company and also has a Masters Certification in Board Education with 76 hours of training. “Through my experiences as a Manager and CEO in an employee-owned company I have gained considerable knowledge in team-building, operations, finances and goal achievement,” Nash said. “My experience in facilitating and leading my company’s Executive Team …

Seven Candidates on the Fox School Board Election Ballot

The two incumbents and five challengers will vie for three board positions serving 3-year terms.

Seven candidates will compete for three Fox C-6 School Board positions during the April 5 election.  John Laughlin of Hidden Meadows declared his candidacy on Jan. 13 and will be the last person listed on the ballot, according to documents provided by the Fox school districts superintendent’s office. Tom Beutenmiller of Riverbluff Drive is the sixth listed candidate. He submitted candidate paperwork on Jan. 3. Linda S. Nash will be the first candidate listed on the ballot, the superintendent's office said, followed, in order, by Vernon Sullivan, Emily J.A. Malabey, Patrick W. Chisholm and Dan E. Smith. Those five candidates arrived at the district building on Dec. 14 — the first day to declare candidacy — and drew numbers to be listed …

Snow Days Have Pushed the Fox School District Calendar to May 20

Superintendent Dianne Brown said additional bad weather days could extend the school year to May 27.

Fox School District Superintendent Dianne Brown said the number of snow days this academic year has pushed the last day of school to May 20.  “But we will learn (later) whether that will be pushed back further,” Brown said about the heavy snowfall expected in the area. Brown spoke at the Fox School Board meeting at the Roy Wilde Conference Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd., on Tuesday night. The National Weather Service forecasted between 2 to 7 inches of snow to fall Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Forecasters expected about 6 to 7 inches of snow along the Interstate 70 corridor in the St. Louis area but expected 2 to 4 inches of snow in the areas south of the city. Meet Emily Malabey, Fox School Board Candidate

The mother and founder of a non-profit organization struggled with the decision to run for school board.

Fox C-6 School Board Candidate Emily Malabey, 35, of Arnold is known as the founder of the International Coalition for Autism and All Abilities, a non-profit organization headquartered in the city and focused on helping Autistic people. She would like the school district to develop visual and interactive techniques to support lectures. She wants more interaction among students, the community and community leaders. “It’s difficult to obtain perspective while sitting in a classroom,” Malabey said in a phone interview. She admits people need years of life experience to forge their perspectives. She hopes students visiting the St. Louis Zoo or interacting with community leaders will begin to ask questions and develop critical thinking skills. …
