Fox unable to shake rust, week of snow days and cancelled classes in a 64-38 loss to Oakville.
After a week of snow, ice and school closings, the Fox and Oakville girls varsity basketball teams resumed their normal schedules on Friday night to play a Suburban West Conference matchup. Oakville ended its five-game losing streak with a 64-38 victory at home over the Fox Warriors. The Tigers are now 6-12, and 1-3 in the conference. The “winter snowpocalypse,” as dubbed by Fox head coach Jeremy Donald, did have some detrimental effects on the basketball squads. “We got to practice yesterday, but that was after six days off,” Donald said after the game. Six days without playing basketball is a long stretch in the middle of the season, and the lack of practice was noticeable in both teams. Fox (5-14, 0-5) and Oakville each looked sluggish …

The Fox High School Girls Basketball team will shift to new strategy for the rest of the season.
Fifteen days away from what his team is calling the "state championship", Fox varsity girls basketball coach Jeremy Donald had an idea on Thursday night at Lindbergh High School. He made five. With 10 players on his roster, Donald took turns subbing the entire five seniors in with an entire lineup of underclassman. Fox lost the game, 44-28, in the consolation semifinals of the Lindbergh Tournament, but the strategy appeared to pay off. Or at least Donald hopes it will in two weeks. “We just haven’t been playing well,” Donald said. “We had a …

Northwest defeats Fox, 50-28, in the teams' opener in the Suburban West Conference.
The Northwest Lions and Fox Warriors tipped off in girls basketball in the conference opener for each team. Northwest controlled much of the game on Friday night and won 50-28 to improve to 9-4 in the season. The Lions held the Warriors to only five points in the first quarter and didn’t allow them to score during the first five minutes and 30 seconds of the game. Lions coach Jason Brown said his team worked hard on their full-court press defense in practices and in preparing for the game against Fox (4-8). Northwest forced numerous early turnovers. “Fox is a rivalry school so we knew it would be a tough game,” Brown said. “My girls worked very hard tonight.” Northwest senior forward Abby Lakin fired her team up with a steal and subsequent…
