Brian Edward Smith, 32, of Imperial, was charged Thursday with second Degree murder in the death of Heather Renee Beckley, 34, of Pevely. The two had been dating and were in a relationship, according to police investigators On Sunday at about 8:30 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person laying in the woods in the vicinity of Butler Valley Drive and Antonia Valley Court in Imperial. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an unidentified woman who was deceased. Indications of trauma to the body were found. The Major Case Squad was activated at the request of Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver “Glenn” Boyer. The medical examiner determined the victim had sustained trauma to the head from blunt force. …

Investigators with the Major Case Squad say the woman is from Jefferson County, but they are waiting for post-mortem results to confirm the victim's identification.
Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis say the 34-year-old woman found dead in Imperial on Sunday is from Jefferson County. However, police are awaiting preliminary autopsy results to make a positive identification, said Capt. Mark Tulgetske with the Major Case Squad. "The post-mortem isn't scheduled until 4 p.m. today," he said. "We're not sure when the results will come in. But we won't be releasing any more information on the case until then." The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is investigating the death of woman found in Imperial as a homicide. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department received a call around 8:30 a.m. Sunday about a person who was possibly intoxicated laying in the woods at Butler Valley Drive and Antonia Court, said Capt. Mark Tulgetske with the Major Case Squad. When deputies arrived, they determined the woman was dead. Tulgetske told Patch investigators have determined the woman is 34 years old, but said they are not releasing any additional information at this time, including the cause of death.
