Meet Arnold Mayoral Candidate Doris Borgelt

Borgelt is one of two candidates running for the Arnold mayor's seat in the April 2 election.

Patch sent all local candidates for office questionnaires in order to compile candidate profiles prior to the April election. Each candidate who returned the survey will be featured on the site. Doris Borgelt, 57 (Candidate for Arnold mayor) Questions 1. What do you currently see as the biggest issue facing Arnold?   Sewer and storm water problems plague many residents. Many still on septic systems have been promised sewer hook-ups for over 10 years. Recently $200,000 was allocated to expand the sewer for Metal Container. People are suffering with collapsing foundations from storm water eroding the grounds around them, yet we paid over $200,000 for a salt dome. Priority should be given to solving residents' problems and fixing what's …

Ron Counts, 66 (Candidate for Arnold mayor) Questions 1. What do you currently see as the biggest issue facing Arnold?   The biggest problem I see facing our community is still the economic growth of income and jobs for our local citizens. I have employed an Economic Development Director working with local businesses to improve their business and also go out and seek new business. My commitment was, and still is, to bring meaningful employment and long lasting economic development to our City. The other biggest problem facing us is to make sure …

Arnold Construction Progress

A snapshot of a construction project in Arnold foretells the coming business on Richardson Road.

In July, ArnoldPatch posted a few photos of construction sites around the City of Arnold. Over the next few days we will publish new photos of the construction sites and the new businesses that have opened this year or will open in 2012. The pictures above show contractors building a new car service station business, Express Mart, that will open at 1919 Richardson Rd. No formal ribbon cutting date for the business owners has been given. The following photos show the Phillips 66 gas station that was formerly on the site. Arnold recieved business license applications for 25 new businesses this year, said Ward 2 Councilman Bill Moritz in an Oct. 21 email to voters. Sidewalks Among Items Being Considered in Comprehensive Plan

Residents want walkability, city planner says.

Among the items considered in Arnold’s new Comprehensive Plan is a call for new sidewalks in the city. Mayor Ron Counts said the call for sidewalks is not new. “We’ve had issues for years with people wanting sidewalks, like on Tenbrook and Starling,” Counts said. “There are several areas through the years that people have pushed hard to get sidewalks, which is good. There are some issues with safety with kids walking and people walking. Sidewalks are definitely a big issue that the city is looking at.” Community Development Director Mary Holden said public involvement is key to developing a comprehensive plan that best reflects Arnold’s values and priorities. As for sidewalks, Holden said, “People want walkability. They want to be able to …

Focus On Parks Could Be Included In Comprehensive Plan

Parks could be a part of city improvement, mayor says.

New parks in the city could be a feature of Arnold's new Comprehensive Plan. City residents will have a chance to weigh in on the plan at a public workshop on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road. “We want to look at where we want to go and where we want to improve, and I think parks are a big part of that,” Mayor Ron Counts said. “It certainly would be nice to have either additional parks or expand what we have.” Community Development Director Mary Holden said residents expressed a desire for more community or neighborhood parks rather than regional parks such as Arnold City Park, near Jeffco Boulevard and Hollywood Beach Road, or Ferd B. Lang Park, near the intersection of Old Lemay Ferry Road …

Poachers May Have Killed Albino Deer in Arnold

Mayor Ron Counts and Police Chief Robert Shockey want to buy patrol all-terrain vehicles to stop poaching in city limits.

Mayor Ron Counts announced a warning to people poaching animals within Arnold’s city limits. “They are going to have some real problems. We do have laws in Arnold,” Counts said during the City Council meeting Thursday at City Hall, 2101 Jeffco Blvd. Three albino deer roam freely through the city and its parks, Counts said to council members and people attending the meeting. Counts heard that someone had illegally hunted and killed one of the deer within the city boundaries. Counts said he was disturbed and bothered by this. A few residents said they were uncomfortable entering city parks because they saw people carrying hunting weapons on the grounds, Counts said. “We have kids around there,” City Administrator Matt Unrein said. Councilmen…
