Small business incubation is one area of focus for Arnold City Council, which approved three new committees last week.
The new Arnold City Council signaled which topics deserve extra attention by creating three new committees last week. During Thursday's meeting, Mayor Ron Counts announced the creation of committees focused on city beautification, transportation and small business. They were created to address city challenges that the council couldn't get to otherwise, Counts said. For example, take the transportation committee. Council members Paul Freese (Ward 3) and Randy Crisler (Ward 1) will be leading that committee. "As our city has grown, transportation has become more and more of issue," Counts said. Butch Cooley (Ward 4) and Jason Fulbright (Ward 1) were appointed to the beautification committee, which will be identifying ways to improve the …

Contributors to Counts' campaign include Drury Inn, Jones Real Estate and Fribis Engineering. Counts' opponent in the race, Doris Borgelt, hasn't filed a campaign finance report.
A committee supporting Ron Counts' re-election to mayor has raised a little more than $11,000 this election season. That's according to campaign finance reports that were filed with the Jefferson County Clerk's office on Feb. 16. Committees that spend and receive a combined $1,000 are required to file disclosures that detail the campaign's activity. A committee supporting Counts' opponent, Ward 1 Councilwoman Doris Borgelt, hasn't filed a similar report for the upcoming election. The committee may not be required to if it hasn't raised the necessary amount of money for disclosure. Attempts to verify with Borgelt have been unsuccessful. The majority—about $9,700—of Counts' contributions came between October and December 2012. The …

Ron Counts, 66 (Candidate for Arnold mayor) Questions 1. What do you currently see as the biggest issue facing Arnold? The biggest problem I see facing our community is still the economic growth of income and jobs for our local citizens. I have employed an Economic Development Director working with local businesses to improve their business and also go out and seek new business. My commitment was, and still is, to bring meaningful employment and long lasting economic development to our City. The other biggest problem facing us is to make sure …

Ron Counts made the announcement at a city council meeting Thursday.
Arnold Mayor Ron Counts said he would run for re-election in April at Thursday's city council meeting. "Some four years ago, I gave serious considerations as to how I may contribute to the community in which I live. After discussion with friends and family, then time in prayer, I decided to run for mayor," he said in a press release handed out before the meeting. "The fine citizens of Arnold supported me as I have since supported them, by leading the way to a balanced budget, helping to bring new jobs to our city and unity among city leaders," he said. Counts was first elected mayor in April 2009. He has been the owner of Counts Auto Body in Arnold for more than 37 years. Counts has also served on the Fox C-6 School Board (1993-2001) and …

Museum employees will provide individual tours to people with disabilities to allow them to fully enjoy the city's history.
The Arnold Historical Society officially opened on July 11 at its new location at 1723 Jeffco Blvd. About 45 Arnold Chamber of Commerce members attended the ribbon cutting event, the museum's President Bernie Wilde said. "It was probably the largest gathering from the Chamber." Wilde, and a few of the historical society members, dressed in historical clothing for the event. The new location is 1,838 square feet and is more than twice the size of the society's former location in an 800-square-foot trailer located at Ferd B. Lang Park, Wilde said. "It allows me to reclaim my basement in my home," she said in a jokingly at the event. Wilde also said that she offers individual tours to people with disabilities to allow them fully enjoy and …

The machines are needed for mailing bills to residents and businesses.
It may seem trivial but a machine that folds letters and packs envelopes is important for Arnold City Hall. Think about having to fold, insert and seal all the sewer and property bills that are regularly mailed to the city's 20,000-plus residents and numerous businesses, Anrold Finance Director Deborah Lewis said during the City Council meeting at City Hall, 2101 Jeffco Blvd., on March 15. "The folding machine is faster and more efficient when sending out bills," Lewis said. Mayor Ron Counts asked Lewis to explain, to councilmen, the need for a new folding machine and a new postage meter for City Hall. Arnold's lease ended on the postage machine and the city lacks folding machine, Lewis said. The new lease will provide the desired …

City Council voted unanimously to OK both projects.
Arnold City Council on Thursday unanimously approved measures that will advance two business developments. In a 6-0 vote, the council OK’d zoning of a 25,000-square-foot building for retail use next to PetSmart in Arnold Commons. The planning commission had previously voted 10-0 to go forward with the project. A single company will operate in the space. Community Development Director Mary Holden and THF Realty representative Mike Neary said further details are confidential. When asked, Holden said the business will be a soft goods store. The council also took action on a project of a much larger scale. Members voted 6-0 to issue the bonds that will help finance the expansion of Metal Container Corporation. Mayor Ron Counts announced …

Oh, we went that route. And then people realized how bad the Tea Party really is, and when you have people self centered on vendettas and revenge instead of getting business done, the fiasco of the last two years is the result. The citizens of Arnold are ready for the council to roll up their sleeves and get back to work for us.   more ›
